
Health Information Technology
The program includes instruction in anatomy, medical terminology, medical coding and billing procedures, medical office accounting procedures, patient privacy regulations, medical records and documentation, general medical office procedures and medical transcription. In addition, students will learn to perform basic patient-centered office/clinic procedures such as vital signs, height & weight, blood glucose testing, etc. Professional ethics and communication skills will also be emphasized. Training in this program will prepare graduates to work as coders/ billers/ transcriptionists in doctors' offices, clinics, hospitals, independent medical billing companies, and even at home as independent contractors. Certification will be sought through the National Healthcareer Association. Coders may work their way into office management positions with experience. There is currently a great demand for skilled workers in this field.
